International Film Festival RotterdamJanuary 21 – 26, 2015

Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF), Toronto, Canada
September 8 -14: Screening on a billboard at Yonge & Edward St.
Friday, September 12: Screening on all TTC monitors
Tamira Sawatzky, Elle Flanders, Josh Schonblum

The Dialogues is a series of videos commissioned by The Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF) 2014. The videos were exhibited as 1-minute videos for the screens in the Toronto Transit Commission subway tunnel monitors, and 8-second videos for the display on one of the largest video billboards in downtown Toronto.

What we’ve said before we say again, anew. What we’ve heard before spurs another thought, and a new conversation arises. In The Dialogues, words, politics, poetry and film collide to create new meanings and allegories. The Dialogues extract some of the most powerful speech uttered in cinema over the last century, allowing words to hang in the balance, devoid of pictures. Some may be read as truisms, some may evoke poetic private moments, while others give speech to that which still needs a voice.
